Board Elections At Pizza Hutt

November 12, 2024 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Dear Elkridge Heritage Society Member,

As the Brumbaugh House is still in the throes of renovation, but we need to have a meeting to elect our officers, we invite you to Pizza Hut 7260 Montgomery Rd, Elkridge, MD  at 7pm on Tuesday, November 12, 2024.

We will purchase some pizzas for refreshment. Pizza Hut was one of Elkridge’s first chain restaurants and we thought we could reminisce about that, whether good memories or sad ones. We will not have a formal presentation.

We have one candidate for each position and we invite you to nominate someone else if you know someone who wants to serve. So far the candidates are:

Craig Pool, our incumbent president

Nikki Marlatt-Young, our incumbent VP

Bill Evans, our incumbent treasurer

Anye Angwafo, for Recording Secretary. Anye is a new member who is enthusiastic about history and is very energetic. He was born and raised in Elkridge. Our current secretary Jake Burdett, needs to step down but he recommended Anye who has been active in other area organizations.

Tina Barton, Communications Secretary (and current webmaster)

We are also always looking for committee chairpersons, especially for fundraising and event planning. This would be a good time to come and get involved.

Bring others you think would like to join us! All they need is an enjoyment of history, whether deep past or recent past.

Please RSVP to (443) 406-8496 (leave a message if no one picks up), or email elkridgeheritage@gmail.com.

This meeting would be a good time to pay dues for 2025. It is still $25 per person or $35 for a family membership. Anyone who pays dues in November or December will be considered an EHS member for 2025.

We really need your support to keep up the progress! The county has been very good to us but our operating costs will increase because we will be running climate control and security once everything is up and running. This will protect our collection and the house itself.

Another newsletter will come out this fall with more details, but here’s what we have done so far:

  1. Improved stormwater management (we still need more of this)
  2. A new roof over Dr. Brumbaugh’s office
  3. Air conditioning installation
  4. Clean-out of old utility equipment in the basement
  5. A new breaker box for electric wiring
  6. Electric wiring upgrade
  7. A new roof on the carriage house

We will receive the second half of our 100k grant from the county in February 2025. With that money we plan to renovate Dr. Brumbaugh’s office, fix water damage in the carriage house, and install a mini-split in the carriage house. The mini-split will provide us a comfortable meeting space. We also need to shore up the old beams in the basement. As finances allow, we will fix plaster walls, install track lighting, paint, sand wood floors and put new linoleum down in the waiting room, create new displays and really make it pretty. Eventually the exterior of the house needs to be repainted. We hope you will be proud to say you helped make it all a reality!

Sincerely,

Tina Barton, EHS Webmaster
