The brigantine Peggy Stewart sailed in with this tide carrying 2\,000 pounds of the noxious weed\, tea\, to the surprise of her owner\, Anthony Stewart\, and to the delight of those looking for an excuse to galvanize support to cast off the Crown’s grip on Maryland.
