    • Summary:
    • Howard Saltzman from the Howard County Storm Water Management Division met with the Harwood Park Neighborhood Community Association on February 13 to discuss new flood zone boundaries.  
    • The new flood zone includes properties on Ivy Terrace, Athol Avenue, Harthorn Avenue, and some properties west of the railroad tracks on Woodburn, Forest, and part of Beechfield Avenues.  
    • The original FEMA flood zone boundaries were drawn in the 1970s after Hurricane Agnes.  
    • Howard County established new 100-year flood plain boundaries based on a computer model recommended by FEMA.  
    • No new permits for buildings or additions will be issued for properties within the new flood zone.  
    • FEMA has not yet formally approved the new boundaries.

  • School Bus Accident on U. S. Route 1: Betry McMillion
    • Summary:
    • In January, there was an accident at the corner of Washington Boulevard and Loudon Avenue involving a bus carrying children from Elkridge Elementary School.  
    • A school bus attempting to turn left onto Loudon Avenue was struck by a northbound vehicle.  
    • The bus operator was cited for failure to yield the right of way.  
    • No serious injuries were sustained by the students.  
    • A flashing light will be installed at the intersection in the fall of 2003
